Staging Your Charles Town WV Home

The holidays are around the corner, and you may be wondering if it is best to have your Charles Town, West Virginia home decorated for the holidays or not. Some feel it adds warmth to the home as well as thoughts of family and friends; however, potential buyers may be celebrating a different holiday than you. Whether you decide to buy and decorate a Christmas tree, hang lights, take out your Menorah or not, here are some staging tips that should be completed prior to listing your home.

Reduce Clutter
One of the most important tasks you may have is reducing the clutter that is in your home. If you are not using it, you should not have it in your home. While de-cluttering, it would be a good time to have a yard sale and gain a little cash for your impending move. You can then donate any unsold items and later receive a tax deduction. Any items you would like to keep but don’t currently need should be boxed up and put out of sight from potential buyers.

Clean Top to Bottom
Cleaning is well up on the list of to-do’s. A clean home signifies it has been taken care of. Your home should be neat and spotless. In addition to your regular cleaning routine, clean your baseboards, cabinets, air filters, windows and window treatments. Check to see if any flooring needs to be replaced or if you need any walls repainted. Avoid cooking with strong spices that may be offensive to others. Instead, bake cookies the day of a showing or light a few candles such as vanilla or linen to give an inviting fragrance to the home.

Add Curb Appeal
Many homeowners focus on sprucing up the inside of their Charles Town, West Virginia homes and neglect the outside. You want to add curb appeal to your home in order to avoid potential buyers driving away without even viewing the inside. You should always have a well-manicured lawn and landscaping. Your driveway and walkways should be pressure-cleaned if needed as well as weeded. You may want to replace your door mat, and add a few decorative items such as a bench, wreath or flowers by the front door or entry. If your door has seen better days, give it a fresh coat of paint and new hardware.
