                Maybe you are searching for a great restaurant to take Mom to.  Jefferson County has great casual dining restaurants, like Applebees, IHOP, Ruby Tuesdays, Mi Delgollado, or Glory Days.  If you are looking for something more upscale you could try The Anvil Restaurant, Yellow Brick Bank, or Dish.  Berkeley County has similar casual restaurants, like Hoss’s, Applebees, Ruby Tuesdays, and Outback Steakhouse.  As far as upscale dining goes, there is Kobe, La Trattorilla Italian Eatery, and Heatherfields Restaurant. 

                If you are looking to get a bouquet for your favorite mom, you can pick up flowers at most of the local super markets or try out one of these great florists: Village Florist, Fresh Cut Flowers, Magnolia Tree, Inwood Florist and Gifts, Flowers Unlimited, Ginger’s Flower Shops, Christine’s Flowers and Fine Gifts, Georgia’s Flower Shop, or Bells and Bows Florist.  There is also an Edible Arrangements location in Martinsburg for moms with a sweet tooth.  You can find many jewelry stores like Feagans in downtown Charles Town or Kays and Kings in the Martinsburg Mall, which is also holding a Crafts for a Cure Extravaganza event April 26 through 28.  During this event, you can find vendors like Avon, Pampered Chef, and Scentsy where you can purchase gifts for mom while supporting the Avon Breast Cancer 3 Day Walk.

                Our area also has some great things to do for Mother’s Day, no matter what your budget is.  You could try packing a picnic lunch to enjoy by the river or in one of the many parks in the Eastern Panhandle.  You can walk through historical Harpers Ferry and grab an ice cream at the Swiss Miss.  Why not treat the moms in your life to a spa day?  Try out Jefferson Massage and Body Works in Ranson or Beneficial Massage in Martinsburg.

Blue Ridge Primary hosts kindergarten and first grade classes, while Blue Ridge Elementary holds grades two through five.  Page Jackson Elementary teaches Kindergarten through grade two and has preschool classes for children with special needs.  Wright Denny Intermediate has grades three through five and has great additional classes, like English as a Second Language.  The school also has a great Multicultural Committee, which helps to promote multicultural awareness.  The rest of Jefferson County’s elementary schools have grades Kindergarten through fifth grade.  They are C. W. Shipley Elementary, Driswood Elementary, North Jefferson Elementary, Ranson Elementary, Shepherdstown Elementary, South Jefferson Elementary, and T. A. Lowery Elementary.  All of which are wonderful schools with activities and extra programs to keep your child having fun while they expand their minds.


The schools in Jefferson County also include three great middle schools that all host grades sixth through eighth.  Charles Town Middle School is home of the Panthers.  They begin each day with a student-run news broadcast call the CTMN.  Harpers Ferry Middle School’s mascot is a Tiger, and Shepherdstown Middle School boasts a cardinal for their mascot.  Wildwood Middle School is the newest of middle schools for the area and has a mustang as its mascot.  Wildwood has a website where you can purchase school merchandise such as T-shirts and coffee mugs.


Grades nine through twelve are located at both high schools: Jefferson High School and Washington High School.  Jefferson High School was established in the fall of 1972.  By 2007, the county’s growing population called for a second high school to eliminate overcrowding.  Washington High School was opened in the 2008-2009 school year, accepting students from the eastern half of the county.
