Wineries and Vineyards near Shepherdstown, Harpers Ferry, and Charles Town WV

Have you ever wondered if there are any Wineries and Vineyards near Shepherdstown, Harpers Ferry, and Charles Town WV?

Vineyards and Wineries near ShepherdstownIf you’re an Oenophile – or perhaps just discovering and exploring your love of wine – the Shepherdstown, Harpers Ferry and Charles Town region is within a short drive to some of the best vineyards and wineries in the mid-Atlantic region. While Jefferson County looks to gain a foothold in the active wine industry, there are several world class vineyards just over the border in Loudoun County, Virginia.

With its rolling landscape, rich soils, warm days and cool nights, the Northern Virginia region provides the ideal environment for growing grapes. As you drive through the region in the early fall season, you will likely spot vines full of fruit waiting to be harvested. The region is known for producing a number of varietals including the popular Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chambourcin, Norton, Petit Verdot, Seyval, and Vidal Blanc.

Not only do many of these vineyards produce world class wines, they also provide tasting rooms, outdoor terraces with spectacular views of the Virginia countryside, and a variety of entertainment. If you stop into a vineyard on any given weekend, you might hear live music in styles including jazz, cajun, and folk, or see a cooking class in progress. Weddings are even held at many vineyards as well!

Breaux Vineyards is located nine miles from historic Harpers Ferry and is a quick drive up Harpers Ferry Road into Northern Virginia. Voted Virginia’s Favorite Winery four years in a row, Breaux’s Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc have won medals worldwide. Breaux’s tasting room and outdoor terrace is the perfect spot to sample their award winning wine, listen to live music, and take in the long lovely views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. (Don’t miss the Cajun Fest and Crawfish Boil that takes place annually in June!)

Further along into Northern Virginia is Hillsborough Vineyard. With beautiful stone buildings and landscaped gardens, the vineyard grows several varietals including Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and Chardonnay. The vineyard also produces a number of blends from all three grapes.

Doukenie Winery in Hillsboro is a wine lovers dream! The winery has several wines including a Viognier with aromas of apricot, apple and honey that can be the perfect match to a warm fall day. Upcoming events include an Italian festival in late September and a Harvest Festival in mid-October.

A quick ride across the Shenandoah River on Charles Town Pike lies the unique Notaviva Vineyards. Music is a central theme: each of their wines is paired with a musical genre or lyrical inspiration to capture the blend of emotions created with music and great wine. The tasting room has a loft with a state-of-the-art sound system, so you can tap your foot while sampling selections of Viognier, Chambourcin, and Cabernet Franc.

World class wine and experiences are just a short drive from Jefferson County.
