If you live in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia there are many ways to show your affection for your significant other on Valentine’s Day. Check out our list of great events that are going on in the area below.

Perhaps dinner and the theatre are more your style. If so, the Old Opera House in Charles Town is featuring a play called The Love List. Authored by Norm Foster, The Love List is a comedy that finds two men, Bill and Leon, wondering about what the perfect woman might be like when she magically appears. You’ll have to watch what happens next in this hilarious play! It’s a good laugh and a perfect Valentine’s Day adventure. The play will run for two weekends: February 7-9 and 14-16.

You may also be interested in attending Shepherd University’s performance of the popular comedy musical “Avenue Q.” The show will be on Friday, February 14th and Saturday, February 15th at 8:00 pm at the Frank Arts Center. It is free to Shepherd University students, and the cost is $10 for the general public.

Do you enjoy romantic poetry? The Berkeley Art Council will be hosting their Second Friday Poetry: Valentine’s Day Edition on Friday, the 14th. The event will take place at Berkeley Art Works in Downtown Martinsburg. What better way to spend the evening than listening to or reading some brilliantly crafted words of love. Bring your date and impress them by reading a poem written especially for them. Check out these famous love poems for some inspiration.

If you are up for a bit of a drive, there are a few events happening in nearby towns that may interest you this Valentine’s Day. On Saturday, February 15th, the Antietam Highlands Wine Trail Tours will have  a wine tour with RoadRunner Services, LLC. The tour will be by reservation, and they will have pick up locations available in Hagerstown and Frederick. Also on Saturday, there will be a dancing event sponsored by the Ruritan Clubs of Washington County and Boonsboro High Class of 1963 that will be open to the public at the Williamsport Red Men Club. The dance will begin at 7:00 pm and run until 11:00 pm. There will be a cash bar, and music will be provided by John Repp – Dancing Kaleidoscope. Put on those dancing shoes and have some fun this Valentine’s weekend.

Your special loved one doesn’t necessarily have to be human. Honoring our pets and those pets without homes should be a special Valentine’s Day event as well. The Animal Welfare Society of Jefferson County is sponsoring an event called the “Purrfect Buffet” on Saturday, February 15 hosted by the Hollywood Casinos at Charles Town Races. There will be live and silent auctions, 50-50 raffles, and other exciting raffles. The fun will take place from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm; doors open at 5:30 pm. Tickets are $45 each, and all proceeds go to the AWS shelter renovation project.

Tradition may loom large and flowers may be the one of the ways to your lover’s heart. There are plenty of florists in the Jefferson and Berkeley County area: Flowers Unlimited, Ginger’s Flower Shops, and Bells and Bows in Martinsburg, The Village Florist in Shepherdstown and Charles Town, and the Inwood Florist and Gifts in Inwood. Each have the perfect assortment to say “I love you”.
