St. Patrick’s Day Festivities in the Eastern Panhandle WV
Make sure you put on your green and head out to one of these great events that are happening in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. There is something for everyone, whether you are young or old, Irish or not! Have some fun this year and take advantage of these St. Patrick’s Day Festivities in the Eastern Panhandle WV.
The town of Harpers Ferry will be hosting a festive St. Patrick’s Day themed Irish Fling on Saturday, March 15th. Many of the shops in town will be offering discounts and delicious Irish treats throughout the day. Waffle Buzz, The Village Shop Bakery, Private Quinn’s, Town’s Inn and Pub, Harpers Ferry Wine and Gourmet, and SCOOPS will all be participating by having Irish delicacies for everyone to enjoy. Make sure to ask about the Shamrock discounts at The Vintage Lady Shop, The Village Shop, STEAM, Tenfold Fair Trade Collection, Westwind Potters, and Mary Adams Accessories. There will also be crafts for the kids at The Town’s Inn. Sounds like a day full of fun!
If you are interested in learning a bit of history about the role Irish immigrants played in the construction of the C&O Canal, you can attend a special presentation by Dr. Karen Gray on Saturday, March 15th. Dr. Karen Gray, who is very knowledgeable about the canal, will be leading an illustrated lecture beginning at 10:30 am at the Entler Hotel, which is located on the corner of Princess and German Street in Historic Shepherdstown. After the lecture, there will be a walking tour on the canal. The doors for the event will open at 10:00 am.
The kids are in for a nice St. Patrick’s Day treat at Four Seasons Books in Shepherdstown on Saturday, March 15th. The bookstore will be having a festive story time and craft for children to make. Four Seasons Books is located at 116 W. German Street. Bring the youngin’s out for a fun time and enjoy listening to the story. Who doesn’t love a good story? Paddy’s Irish Pub will be having an entire weekend celebration leading up to St. Patrick’s Day! Located right here in Charles Town, Paddy’s is going to be the place to be this holiday. On Saturday, March 15th, they will be having a hog roast at 7:00 pm. Then there will be music by the Jokers at 8:00 pm. On Sunday, they will host Unwound at 2:30 pm, and on Monday, there will be a DJ and karaoke starting at 2:30 pm. They will not be taking reservations. Don’t miss out on all the fun!
Domestic, a restaurant located at 117 E. German Street in Shepherdstown, is hosting a fun night of St. Patrick’s Day celebrations with great food and great music. The event will take place on Saturday, March 15ht. The menu will feature some classic Irish corned beef and cabbage. There will also be chocolate Guinness cake- yum! Opera House Live in Shepherdstown will be showing two St. Patrick’s Day inspired films on Saturday, March 15th at 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm. The films that will be shown are The Secret of Roan Inish and Waking Ned Devine. These movies are both rated PG, so they would be appropriate for a variety of ages. The event is open to the public for free. So if you’d like to take advantage of some free movies, this is your chance!
The Fox Hunt, a fantastic local bluegrass band, will be performing Monday night at Opera House Live. The show will begin at 9:00 pm. Tickets for this show will be $7. They can be purchased online at the Opera House Live website. You won’t want to miss this show!
Are you looking for a wonderful celebration of Irish heritage that involves eating a lot of good food? Check out this delicious event at the Historic McFarland House on March 12th. They will be having a St. Patrick’s Day Feast with 8 courses of amazing food and beer. The event will begin with a meet and greet at 7:00 pm and then dinner at 7:30 pm. The cost is $50.

If you are willing to drive a little bit, there is a really cook event taking place at the Luhrs Center at Shippensburg University in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. The ‘Women of Ireland’ concert production will be showcasing Irish music and dance by female Irish performers. The event will be on Friday, March 14th at 8:00 pm. This is going to be a treat! Often times we focus on feasting and delicious Irish food when it comes to St. Patrick’s Day. However, the town of Hagerstown, Maryland has created an event that promotes a slightly more healthy way to celebrate: a St. Patrick’s Day 5K Run/Walk! This event has become an annual run that takes place in Washington County. This year the event will be held on Saturday, March 15th. The starting line is at the intersection of North Potomac and Washington Street. Make sure to check it out and run for your luck this year!
There will be a festive parade in Gaithersburg, Maryland on Saturday, March 15th. The parade will celebrate Irish heritage. It will begin at 10:00 am at the Washingtonian Center. So if you’re feeling super festive, you may want to look into going to the 14th annual parade.
