While driving around the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, one can see that Berkeley and Jefferson County have some truly beautiful and historic homes. The area is rich in history, and the architecture varies from home to home. In order to show off these beautiful homes in the area, the Shenandoah-Potomac Garden Council holds an annual event that allows people to travel from home to home and learn about the historical significance and uniqueness of each home.

This year, the 60th Annual House and Garden Tour will be held on April 25th and 26th. The homes on display this year include Rose Cottage in Harpers Ferry, Needwood Farm in Harpers Ferry, the Clabaugh/Pifer House in Middleway, Springhill in Darksville, Willowbrook Farm in Inwood, Hawthorne Hall in Martinsburg, and the Norman VanMetre House in Martinsburg. During the 60th Annual House and Garden Tour, guests will be able to tour the homes with a knowledgeable guide from a local garden club who will describe each home’s architecture, décor, and landscaping. To register for the event, you can visit their website and print the registration form to send in with a check or money order by April 11, 2015. Advanced tickets cost $15, and tickets purchased on the day of the actual event will be $20.

The bitter winter cold has begun to subside, and the sun is shining brighter each day. Spring is almost here! That being said, Easter is right around the corner. This year, Easter will fall on Sunday, April 5th. We are hoping for sunshine and beautiful weather for sunrise church services, Easter egg hunts, and family get-togethers. If you are still looking for something to do for Easter, there are several Easter celebrations in the Eastern Panhandle this year that we believe will provide tons of great family fun.

If you have any little ones that would be interested in meeting the Easter Bunny, he will be with his crew over at the Martinsburg Mall beginning on March 31st during mall hours. He will be available for photographs through Easter Sunday.

Before Easter arrives, your children will have the opportunity to eat breakfast with Peter Cottontail and participate in a grand Easter egg hunt with Jefferson County Parks and Recreation. You will need to pre-register for the event, and there is a slight cost to attend, but the event is going to be a blast. In fact, there will be over 6,000 eggs to collect during the Easter egg hunt. Yes, you read that correctly: 6,000 eggs! That’s a lot of treats to be found. All the kids who participate will also be able to complete a nice Easter craft to take home.

Have you ever been to the Easter Pet Parade and Egg Roll in Martinsburg? This annual event is put on by Main Street Martinsburg, and it is a fantastic event for anyone who has a lovable and furry pet at home. The Easter Pet Parade will be full of fun-loving animals, some of which will even be dressed up in their Easter garb. You will not want to miss this one. It will take place on Saturday, April 4th at noon. If you are interested in being a part of the pet parade, it will begin at 11:45 at the corners of Martin and Queen Street. Prizes will be awarded to the pets who are best dressed and have the best Easter bonnet.

If you would like to treat your family and yourself to a wonderfully prepared meal on Easter, you should make reservations at The Clarion Inn in Shepherdstown on Sunday, April 5th. They have so many different options on their delicious buffet menu, so everyone is guaranteed to be satisfied. The brunch will take place from 11:00 am until 4:00 pm with seatings on the hour.
