Super Hero Run – September 19th, 2015

Join CASA of the Eastern Panhandle on September 19th, 2015 for their Super Hero Run, which will include a 5K trail run, 10K trail run, and doggie dash. The race will take place at Poor House Farm Park. Registration will begin at 7:30 am, and the race will begin with staggered starts no later than 8:30 am. Runners are encouraged to dress up in their super hero garb and dress up their dogs as well. Prizes will be awarded for costumes!

Race for the Ribbon – September 19th, 2015

Also taking place on September 19th, 2015 is the Race for the Ribbon 5K. This race will be held at the Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races and Slots. The race will begin at the racetrack and then wind through downtown Charles Town and Ranson. The proceeds from this event will go toward Susan G. Komen and the fight against breast cancer. The race will begin at 9:00 am.

Freedom’s Run – October 10th, 2015

Freedom’s Run is a very popular running event in the Eastern Panhandle every year. The race begins in Shepherdstown and is hosted by Shepherd University. This year, the event will take place on October 10th, 2015. Runners can register for a 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon, or kids fun run. The marathon has a unique route that will take runners through four national parks. At the finish, guests will be treated to a fun festival with a beer garden at The Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown. This is an iconic run in the Eastern Panhandle, and you will want to make sure you participate at least once.

Apple Trample 5K – October 17th, 2015

The Apple Trample 5K is an annual tradition in Martinsburg that takes place before the Mountain State Apple Harvest Festival Parade. This year, the race will take place on October 17th, 2015. Both walkers and runners are encouraged to participate in the race. Walkers will start at 10:30 am, and runners will begin at 11:30 am. After the race, there will be a post race party and awards ceremony. Make sure you stick around for the parade afterward. Race day check in and registration will begin at 8:00 am at The Wellness Center in Martinsburg.

Wobblin’ Goblin 5K – October 31st, 2015

If you are looking for a fun 5K to participate in this fall, make sure you check out Veterun’s Wobblin’ Goblin 5K on Halloween morning at Summit Point Motorsports Park. Racers are encouraged to dress up for the occasion since it is on Halloween. Registration and check in will begin at 8:00 am, and the race will start at 10:00 am.

Flamingo Fandango Girls’ Night Out

Main Street Martinsburg presents the Flamingo Fandango Girls’ Night Out on Saturday, August 29th! All you ladies are invited out to the downtown area of Martinsburg to enjoy some fun and pampering at various participating businesses. The event will begin at 4:00 pm at the Shenandoah Hotel and run until 8:00 pm. The event is $25 per participant. Tickets can be purchased online via the Main Street Martinsburg website. Participating businesses include TLC Photography, Laine’s Restaurant, Les’ Station Grill, Queen Street Gallery, Flowers Unlimited, Casa Visone, Peking Restaurant, Boyd’s Steakhouse, DeFluri’s Fine Chocolates, Habanero Mexican Grill, and the Shenandoah Hotel.

1st Annual Realtor Family Reunion

On Sunday, August 30th, the Eastern Panhandle Board of Realtors will be hosting their first ever Family Reunion Picnic in the park at 2:00 pm. The event will be taking place at War Memorial Park, which is located off Exit 14 of 1-81 near the hospital. The picnic will include food and fun for the family. The pool will also be open for families from 6:30 until 8:30 pm. Everyone is asked to bring a dessert or covered dish to share with the other guests at the picnic. There will be fun games and chances to win prizes throughout the night!

Beginner Tai Chi Classes

If you have ever been interested in checking out a Tai Chi class, now is your chance. Throughout the month, there will be Tai Chi classes at Mama Studio located at 630 Winchester Avenue in Martinsburg. This is a great opportunity to learn something new that can help you be a better you.

Saturday, August 15th and Saturday, August 16th

Dog Fest 2015 is going to be one of those unique Shepherdstown, West Virginia events that you will not want to miss. Whether you own a dog or not, the festival will be a fun experience full of one-of-a-kind activities. For instance, it is not often that you can watch a sheep dog demonstration or witness a flyball competition in person. At Dog Fest 2015, you can do just that! You will be able to watch as two border collies shepherd a bunch of sheep and control their movement on the Midway. You will also be able to see dogs compete with kids and pigs in the flyball competition on the Midway.

In addition to those two unique events, Dog Fest 2015 will also be having a parade of rescue dogs. If you have been wanting to add a furry new friend to your family, this is a great opportunity to see and meet some local rescue dogs and agencies. The dogs that will be there need forever homes, and we hope some of you might be able to provide those forever homes to them. There will also be a dog show with local pups and several different historical talks about the role of dogs in the Civil War, World War I, and World War II during the festival.

One aspect of Dog Fest 2015 that is so great is that the town of Shepherdstown will be extremely dog-friendly throughout the weekend. Many businesses and restaurants will be opening their doors to pets and even offering some special doggie treats and products. There will also be several pools and misters placed throughout the festival to provide extra hydration and cool spots for your dogs to take a break and rehydrate. There will also be several doggy-bag stations available.

So don’t forget to head on out to Shepherdstown on Saturday, August 15th and Sunday, August 16th. You and your dog will not want to miss out on this exciting adventure called Dog Fest 2015. Come on out and enjoy all the dog tips, dog treats, dog information, and dog fun!
