If you are in love with Halloween, you will be in love with the Apollo Civic Theatre this year as they are hosting four fantastic Apolloween events throughout October. There will be the famous Haunted Theatre, the iconic Rocky Horror Picture Show performance, paranormal investigations, and a spooktacular Monster Bash. The proceeds from these events will go toward keeping local live theatre alive in Martinsburg. We can’t wait!

Wonderment Puppet Theater – Hansel and Gretel

The Wonderment Puppet Theater in Martinsburg will be having puppet performances of the famous Hansel and Gretel story throughout the month. Every Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 pm guests are invited to come check out the show for $5 per person. The Wonderment Puppet Theater accepts cash or checks. Remembering 9/11 In and Around the Eastern Panhandle

With the anniversary of the tragic events that occurred on September 11th approaching, the Eastern Panhandle and surrounding areas have a few events planned to remember those who lost their lives and honor those who offered service during that time. We would like to encourage each of you to be reflective of the events that took place on that day and make a point to remember those who were lost and the families they left behind. Many people were impacted on that day, and we want to remember the great sacrifice out first responders make on a daily basis.

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

The Independent Fire Company of Ranson, West Virginia will be holding a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony on Friday, September 11th, 2015. The ceremony will begin at 9:58 am at 200 W. 2nd Avenue in Ranson. The commemoration will take place during the time between the collapse of the two World Trade Center towers. The speaker will be Senior Master Sgt. Jeff Gengler, and bagpipes will be played by Joe Kent. This special event is open to the public.

Annual Remembrance Parade

Not too far from the Eastern Panhandle, the Town of Boonsboro, Maryland will be hosting their Annual Remembrance Parade on Friday, September 11th, 2015. The parade will take place on historic Main Street and begin at 6:30 pm. It is held annually in order to remember the fire, rescue, and law enforcement personnel who lost their lives on 9/11. The parade will be held rain or shine.

National Day of Service

Did you know that in the year 2009, Congress designated September 11th as a National Day of Service and Remembrance? Citizens are encouraged to participate in community service events throughout their communities in order to make them a better place. After a quick search on www.Allforgood.org, it appears there are a few opportunities to serve nearby with the American Red Cross of West Virginia, AARP of Winchester, and the Damascus Community Fair in Maryland. You can search for opportunities to serve and get more information about these local projects here: National Day of Service and Remembrance Volunteer Opportunities.
