Spring in Jefferson County: Spring is officially here, and we are so excited for what’s to come this season in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia! Here’s a brief look at some of the notable events, celebrations, and overall fun happening in the area in the coming months.

Friends Wilderness Center: This outdoor multipurpose space is offering a variety of spring-centered events, from a poetry workshop and wildflower foraging class to watercolor journaling and an evening studying the stars.

Charles Town Library: The library will celebrate Poetry Month & Earth Day with a Teen Poetry Slam & Poet’s Circle event on Friday, April 22 from 6-8pm. Register to compete in the slam or come to listen!

Jefferson County Little League: Opening Day for the local Little League is on Saturday, April 9 this year! Please see their calendar for details on games.

Charles Town’s WV Fest: Formerly known as the Heritage Festival, the WV Fest will be on Saturday, June 18 from 10am-4pm, with arts & crafts vendors, food, live music, and other educational activities.

Charles Town Farmer’s Market: The CTFM will open for the season on Saturday, April 16 at 8am. Come meet old and new friends, shop local and enjoy fresh spring produce!

Jefferson County Museum: The museum will reopen on Tuesday, April 12. On Saturday, April 16 from 1-4pm, the staff will hold a celebratory reception, where they will debut their four new exhibits to the public.

New Eateries Opening in Charles Town

New Business in Charles Town WV: 2016 is an exciting year for downtown Charles Town, WV! When one door closes, another one opens–in this case, five are opening! Here’s a breakdown of the eateries coming to Charles Town this year.

Mad Monks Coffee Shop: Former fans of Jumpin’ Java will love this new addition, and in the same building as the original coffee hub! The shop will open soon and offer not only coffee and baked goods, but monastic artisan breads, made in house by real monks from the Canons Regular of the New Jerusalem.

Mash Brewery: Coming this spring to George Street, this nano-brewery will house its own brewed beers, as well as guest taps. Mash plans to host tastings and offer growlers for those on the go.

Rivas Salsas: Having just opened in March, Rivas sells authentic Mexican salsas, local and organic products, plus tamales, dips, chips and more. This gourmet market was previously a staple at nearby farmer’s markets, expanding into a retail space due to popularity.

Front Porch Brewery: While they’re still renovating their space, Front Porch hopes to open officially sometime this summer. Not just a brewery, they will serve as a pub and space for bands and musicians.

Sugar Whipped Bakery: Located in the same building as Jala Yoga on Washington Street, Sugar Whipped will offer a variety of baked goods for different dietary needs, such as gluten-free. They specialize in gourmet decorative cakes, but plan to serve healthy energy bars, teas, coffee, and shakes.
