New Businesses at the Charles Town Farmers Market 2016

Charles Town Farmers Market: New Vendors – April marked the beginning of the Charles Town Farmer’s Market season again, and residents are excited to welcome all of the wonderful new vendors! Take a look below for the some of the new offerings now available at the farmers market.

Walnut Hill Farm

For the first time ever, the market will soon have farm fresh, cream-line, whole, pasteurized milk. Walnut Hill Farm is a small, local family owned and operated in Kearneysville. Using registered Holstein and Brown Swiss cattle, farmers Mark and Donna and their son Justin produce all natural, non-homogenized milk for consumption. Their cows are fed GMO-free diets without added hormones.

The Cultured Leaf Kombucha

Only recently, kombucha has started to replace smoothies as the trendy drink of choice–and for good reason! Kombucha is a fermented probiotic-filled tea that has a unique taste and great health benefits. Owners of The Cultured Leaf, Jodi and Ryan, believe in sustainable, small batch production and living food.

Blue Mountain Farm

Dave, owner of this small-scale farm in Hedgesville, uses sustainable methods when it comes to produce and poultry. Blue Mountain Farm grows everything from arugula to zucchini, and plans to be at the market every single week.

Arcadian Furnishings

The market doesn’t just offer produce–it also offers home goods! Arcadian Furnishings specializes in rustic twig furniture. Owner, Tim, started woodworking at age fifteen, loves using unique wood types, and even makes smaller scale items like candle holders.

Mountaineer Popcorn Company

Located in the Shenandoah Valley, this company uses non-GMO corn only. In addition to standard popcorn flavors, Mountaineer Popcorn also make specialities like Peanut Butter Cup, Buffalo Wing, and Cookies and Cream, among others.

Spring

Summer

If you love hot, humid summers, this is the place to be! The area is categorized as humid subtropical, with temperatures only reaching the upper 80’s during July. But don’t worry–it’s rarely hotter than 90, and average rainfall keeps things fresh and cool when you need a break from the heat.

Fall

Probably the most stunning season in the Eastern Panhandle, fall is characterized by crisp, cool days, with average rainfall and usually no snow. You’ll be surrounded by vibrant colors–a majority of the land is covered in forest, which means you’ll get to witness the changing leaves all season long.

Winter

Here in the Eastern Panhandle, winters are typically mild but cold, with the most snow falling in January. Temperatures tend to stick in the 30-40’s, with the low being 22 degrees. Witness the mountains and rolling hills covered in a blanket of snow a few times each winter, but you won’t ever have to stress about the weather hitting below zero (or freezing pipes).

Overall, the Eastern Panhandle gets the U.S. average of 37 inches of rain fall each year, and the average 26 inches of snowfall. More than half the year claims sunny days, and the comfort humidity level is on par with the U.S. average of 44 out of 100.

Jefferson County Activities
